Pansinusitis por Mycoplasma pneumoniae en adolescente de 14 años: Presentación de caso y revisión de literatura

Abstract

Sinusitis is a highly prevalent pathology in the pediatric population. In 90% of the cases, its etiology is viral, however, in less than 10% its causative agent is bacterial. Due to the superposition of allergic, environmental and infectious factors, its diagnosis can go unnoticed, which makes timely detection essential to avoid long-term complications. The publication of this case is considered necessary due to the atypical presentation of this pathology. We present a case report of a 14-year-old male pediatric patient with pansinusitis due to Mycoplasma pneumoniae in whom, in the first instance and due to his clinical features, dengue infection was suspected. It has been recently demonstrated that computed tomography is superior to conventional radiography in the presence of non-specific cases. Due to its frequent occurrence in pediatric patients, it is recommended the use of computed tomography in cases of uncertainty diagnosis for a correct and timely approach.
